Doesn't Tony Williams play a track on that record?
Listening to Allan Holdsworth's "Sand". Great album, if you dont already have it. Gary, and Chad share drum chair, but I'm really enjoying the ebb and flow of Gary's on "Pud Wud". Also, Gary, your swing feel is so nice and loose over the keyboard solo on that track as well.
Very nice bit of playing.....
Those early/mid-80's albums (IOU, Atavachron, Metal Fatigue, Sand)were such a large influence on my playing in particular, and how I thought about music in general. Cheers and thanks, Gary. (So cool to have one of my early heroes on this board.....)

Pud Wud rules. My favorite song on the album, and one of my favorite Holdsworth tunes. Killer SynthAxe and out-of-control drumparts. Awesome!
Well thanks Dave,
I don't remember it so much now... was a long time ago!! But I appreciated your comments there having noticed your thread. I remember raising a little dust with the guitar around the end of his solo, and the thing featuring a really nice piano solo by Alan Pasqua (I think!)
I think the swing quality was largely down to Jimmy Johnson, who is such a dream to play with. He's so accommodating as a player, and a musician - doesn't impose any heavy anchor and was so into when the drums might go nuts with the guitar whenever that used to happen!
I have good memories making that album although I think I just ended up on two tracks. It rushed - like they all were... usually first takes, jetlagged to the hilt, full of coffee!!! nevertheless there's always a freshness to that I guess. The track Sand I remember scripting out this sort of circular, round-and-round thing in "3" across the 4/4 composition... and the way it looked on paper it worked out perfectly with the duration of the synthaxe solo length... of course though I went on to f*** it up on the take here and there, so it didn't work out as planned! Don't think it was such a bad take though. It got the feeling down quite nicely as I remember.
Thanks for your compliments again. I will have to go back and check it out.
Warmest wishes,
GH

I checked the credits and sure enough, Tony didn't play on this. Am I losing my mind? Didn't Tony Williams play on one of Allan's solo releases? Maybe I'm thinking of Weather Report....

I think Tony was on some of Atavachron.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Did i forget to mention JJ on bass? I thinks it's understood that Jimmy Johnson is tremendous. And what a great bass solo on PudWud. PudWud has it all, a definative Allan Holdsworth tune. With Gary playing like no other.Originally posted by Gary Husband:

Tony Williams indeed delivered a beautiful performance in the piece "Looking Glass" on the "Atavachron" album.
Beautiful, characterful and elegant poetry in motion.
